I apologize that there was no calendar last month.
This month is a special illustration of Franz Stigler's White 3. I was fortunate to meet Franz in the summer of 2004 along with his very good friend, B-17 pilot Charles Brown. This illustration was created especially for Franz Stigler and depicts him in his personal Me 262 "White 3". Franz told me that this particular Me 262 was a good ship and he would let no other pilots fly it. However, Adolf Galland would sometimes "pull rank" and fly it on missions. Later, "White 3" became associated with Galland and many famous paintings depict this, but it was really Franz's plane. It was something Stigler and Galland joked about after the war was long over. I should also point out that Franz insisted that this aircraft was painted in greys, not the late-war green and brown-violet scheme. He said it was the same color as the Bf 109s he flew, RLM 74/75/76. Sadly, Franz Stigler is no longer with us, he took his final flight on March 22, 2008.
