The Messerschmitt Me 262
was the first jet powered fighter to be actively used in combat.
The shark-like Me 262 pushed the envelope of fighter plane
design and easily outclassed the conventional fighters of
the day. Many features which became standard in later designs
were first introduced on the feared and respected Me 262.

This section of Stormbirds.com covers the Me 262 while it
was in service with the Luftwaffe during the Second World War.
Webmasters note:
"Stormbirds at War" was first started back in 1997.
Then titled "The Unofficial Me 262 Website", the site
was an ambitious attempt to cover many aspects of the Me 262
including the new-build Messerschmitt jets then in progress
in Texas. Since that time, the site has gone through many changes
including intergration into the "Official" Me 262
Project site - "Stormbirds.com" in late 1998. Fast
forward to late-2005 and this section of Stormbirds.com has
once again undergone a complete overhaul (which is still in
progress). Much thought and effort has gone into creating a
site that is informative, instantly accessible, visually interesting
and easy to maintain and update.
I hope you enjoy the site and that it will
continue to be a resource for the Me 262 enthusiast for many
years to come.
